January Meeting

The January meeting began with the President discussing a number of items of general interest to the Club members. A number of members presented their recent work at the Instant Gallery. One of the more interesting pieces was an orthogonal turning by Dave Vehrs - it was a gavel turned on two axes using a single piece of wood. Harry then announced that the Club Challenge for the February meeting would be a turned gavel or mallet. In addition to demonstrating one method for turning a gavel, Harry also demonstrated the use of a Dremel tool to carve a rose on a turned piece. Names were also drawn for the winners of the door prize and raffle. The next meeting will be at Jim Meyer's shop in Athens.

February 25 Meeting

Meetings are scheduled for the fourth Saturday of each month. Our next meeting is scheduled for Saturday, January 25 at 9:30am. Jim Meyer will be demonstrating the tools, jigs, techniques and methods that he uses to produce segmented turnings. The meeting will be held at Jim Meyer's shop in Athens.

February Club Challenge

President Harry Newman announced a Club Challenge for the February meeting - Turn a Gavel. There are many designs for gavels and mallets on the Internet that can help you design a truly unique gavel. There are no limitations on the materials or dimensions so use your imagination.

Lathes and Lasagna

Lathes and Lasagna sessions are held on the first and third Tuesday evenings of the month at Bill Sproul's shop in Lewisburg. Turning is from 4 pm until whenever with dinner and a surprise dessert about 7 p.m. In addition to turning, one person also serves as "Chef of the Day" and prepares dinner and dessert for the group. In order for the Chef of the Day to prepare sufficient dinner for everyone, participants must RSVP to Bill no later than the Monday evening before the session.
